In 2022, EuropeFides launched its Internship Programme which allows young professionals of our member firms the opportunity to live and work abroad at another EuropeFides member firm for a limited period of time. Lilli Raddatz of bdp Bormann, Demant & Partner in Berlin was the second intern to take part in the programme. Earlier this year, she spent two months interning at Bernardini, Egger & Co Steuerberatung und Wirtschaftsprüfung GmbH in Vienna. In this article, Lilli shares her experience of her internship.
Hello, my name is Lilli Raddatz, and I am a dual student at bdp Bormann, Demant & Partner. This means that for half the month, I am a full-time student, and for the other half, I work full-time. I've been with bdp since August 2021 and am based at our office in Berlin. I was incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to participate in the EuropeFides Internship Program, which allowed me to work at Bernardini, Egger & Co Steuerberatung und Wirtschaftsprüfung GmbH in Vienna. I want to share with you my amazing experience in this short essay.
The internship program ran from February 20th to April 16th, and everything went smoothly. We agreed on important details like my accommodation, remuneration, and work schedule. When I arrived in Vienna, I settled into my basement apartment in a beautiful old villa with all the necessities. My colleagues at Bernardini, Egger & Co welcomed me warmly and showed me around the city. We even went sightseeing together after work, and I got to sample some of Austria's delicious specialties. Through these experiences, I fell in love with Vienna.
I quickly settled into my work and enjoyed getting an insight into working life in another country and expanding my tax knowledge. Even though the tax system is very similar to the German tax system, I was able to learn a lot and actively support my colleagues. I was even able to prepare tax returns and work on annual financial statements right from the start, which was a great feeling. I'm studying business administration with a focus on tax accountancy, so it was particularly rewarding to be able to use my knowledge to contribute to the firm. I was also grateful that I could work for bdp at my workplace, allowing me to continue my tasks without any technical difficulties.
The two months flew by, and I was sad to say goodbye to my colleagues and Vienna. But I also looked forward to going home, where I felt most comfortable. The internship program was a challenging but rewarding experience, and I learned a lot about myself, both professionally and personally. I'm incredibly grateful for this opportunity and the experiences that I was able to gather.
In summary, the EuropeFides Internship Program at Bernardini, Egger & Co Steuerberatung und Wirtschaftsprüfung GmbH was a fantastic opportunity that allowed me to grow both personally and professionally. I'm grateful to have been a part of it, and I'll always remember the amazing experiences I had.
