The next session of the Tax & VAT Working Group will take place on
Wednesday, 8 February 2023
12.00pm-1.00pm CET on Zoom
Topic: Permanent Establishment in the Era of Digitalization and Remote Work
About the session:
Part 1 | Country Updates (15 min): Participants are invited to share recent important tax developments or client cases in their respective countries
Part 2 | Discussion (45 min): Permanent Establishment in the Era of Digitalization and Remote Work
Increasing digitalization of work has enabled employees to work remotely from anywhere. The Covid-19 pandemic has reinforced this trend by disrupting business operations and restricting international travel. This development has also had several implications from a tax perspective.
In this session, we will discuss how cross-border remote working exposes business and tax authorities to new challenges regarding:
- the requirements for permanent establishment (PE),
- the notion of effective place of management;
- and how they determine the country of residence of a company for tax purposes.
